Host Guidelines

Hosts create time slots of availability for the volunteers to serve.  Your presence means that people will be able to come in and help with the work! Thank you so much! (Please keep Linda B. informed of your time slots as you add them)

Obtain the door code from the the church secretary. If you are not sure how to open the building, please get a tutorial from her. Open the building for workers, turn on lights. Assist all workers by giving them initial instruction if needed, answering questions, etc. Turn off the lights and be sure the door is locked when you leave.

GARB GIVEAWAY GUIDELINES - Pre-Event

Upon beginning, take a tour around the rooms to familiarize yourself with the layout.

Take a bag from the donations area. Open the bag, preferably without destroying it so that it can be used on the day of event for the "shoppers".

As you pull an item from the bag inspect that there are no holes, rips, stains, bad odors in the garment. Failure on any of these means the item goes in UNSUITABLE pile.

If the item has inappropriate sayings or symbols, place in UNSUITABLE.

We also do not put out lingerie or Halloween items. The items are going to be a representation of GBC, and should not send a message that conflicts with a biblical worldview.

Note about under garments - please place out only impeccable items. All others, please place in the UNSUITABLE pile. Absolutely no evidence of previous use.

If an item has pet hair or a minor stain, place in the LAUNDER PILE.

Items that pass both inspections, can be folded (exception - the small kiddie clothes are being laid flat with the arms folded in).

Once folded, place at the appropriate sizing table. If an item is not clearly for a girl, place in the boy's section

WHEN IT DOUBT, THROW IT OUT....if you just can't decide, ask the Host.

Repeat.

Please note - There is water in the refrigerator for your enjoyment!

Day of Event Guidelines -

DOE volunteers please arrive by 9:00 a.m.

Room 2 (Pre-School) is the DOE Headquarters. You may stash your belongings in this room. There will be food throughout the day available in this room. (Probably pizza and donuts and some fruit (Linda).

NOTE: Katrina will be giving us sizing information for community kids that we serve on a regular basis, who will likely not be able to come...While you are on site helping with other things, please "shop" for as many of these kids as you can. We would rather not give them our "left overs." See Katrina for instructions.

More information to follow from Team Leader on the day of event.

Event Closure Guidelines -

The hardest part about this amazing event is that by the time we get to this point, we're all exhausted!

BUT - THIS YEAR, we absolutely want to close the event by moving all the remaining donations out of the building. Chris Lounsberry will be heading up the extraction.

At the appropriate time (probably as close to 2:00 as we can get it) begin bagging all donations and placing in a place suitable for Chris' extraction team to commandeer.

Once tables are empty, they will need to be returned to the places designated. Return all chairs to the appropriate area. If you see areas that need a quick sweep, please do that.

Double check with the team leader and the extraction team to verify job is complete.
